Baseball Tops Pius in Renewal of Suspended Game

It took nearly a month to complete, but the Viking baseball team earned a season sweep of Pius XI with a 7-1 victory on Thursday night, in the conclusion of a game that was suspended due to weather back on April 13.

Wisco led 3-1 at the time of postponement, thanks to a Pius error on a Ryder Derouin grounder, a bases-loaded walk by Carlos Walta, and a sac fly from Jaxon Raabe. Walta took over on the mound when the game resumed and fired a gem, finishing out the remaining 5.2 innings and allowing no runs on just three hits while striking out 10 to earn the victory. He also helped his own cause at the plate with an RBI triple in the 3rd, and a run scoring single in the 7th. An RBI single from Will Hotchkiss and a wild pitch that plated Derouin accounted for the other Viking runs.

The team's busy week continues on Friday when they travel to Milwaukee Lutheran before hosting a doubleheader with Shoreland Lutheran on Saturday.
