Fifth Annual Civil Rights Trip

Over Easter break, 32 students participated in the Civil Rights tour. The students visited iconic places that hold significance for the Civil Rights movement in America, including: Abraham Lincoln's birthplace and memorial in Springfield, Illinois, Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthplace and Atlanta History Center in Atlanta, Georgia, Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Rosa Parks Museum and Dexter Ave. King Memorial Church in Montgomery, Alabama, and Kelly Ingram Park and Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. This powerful trip helps our students to grow in their understanding of the Civil Rights Movement. In addition to learning from the sites, students engage in guided discussions about race relations and write reflective journal entries about their own growth.
