The Viking wrestling team defeated Catholic Memorial 64–12 in the sectional semifinals, then scored a 33-32 upset over Kiel in the sectional finals to advance to the Team State Tournament on Saturday, March 2 in Madison. Wisco claimed the team sectional title for just the second time in school history and is one of only four schools in the state to qualify at the Division 2 level.
Team State takes place at the UW Fieldhouse in Madison. The Vikings' semifinal opponent and match time will be determined after the seeding meetings on Saturday, February 23.
The Viking wrestling team fought its way to the team championship at the WIAA Regionals at East Troy on Saturday. An outstanding team effort was paced by five regional champs: Lucas Nygaard (138 lbs), Adler Henn (145), Jason Bonow (152), Freddie Kyles (195) and Isaiah Hahm (285). Second place finishers were David Carson (113), Ruben Micheel (120) and Jacob Grabczyk at (220). All eight of those wrestlers qualify to wrestle in individual sections at Campbellsport High School on Saturday, February 16.
The team will compete this Tuesday, February 12, in team sectionals at North Fond du Lac High School at 6 pm. They will wrestle Catholic Memorial in the semifinals at 6:00 PM, with the sectional championship to follow at 8:00 PM. The winner moves on to team state competition in Madison. In the event of bad weather team sectionals will be rescheduled for Wednesday.
The Viking wrestling squad capped its Woodland Conference season with a third place finish at the 11-team conference tournament.
Finishing as individual conference champions were Lucas Nygaard, Jason Bonow, and Freddie Kyles. Adler Henn and Alex Sutter were runners-up, and Ruben Micheel and David Carson were third place finishers. Isaiah Hahm took fifth to round out the Viking place-winners.
The team heads to East Troy for regionals on Saturday, February 9.
The Viking wrestlers went 3-1 at the Tosa Duels on Saturday to place second overall. The team downed Badger, Wauwatosa, and Manitowoc Lincoln before falling to Watertown. David Carson and Lucas Nygaard both went undefeated on the day.
The team hosts a third-place Woodland crossover dual on Wednesday. They will face Milwaukee Lutheran. The JV begins at 6:30 and the varsity takes the mat at 7:15.
In a clash of undefeated conference teams, the Viking wrestlers lost a hard fought battle to Pewaukee 46-19. The Vikings take on Milwaukee Lutheran in a crossover match next week for third place in the Woodland Conference. That match will be at WLHS on the evening of January 23.
The varsity wrestling team defeated New Berlin 47 -21. Jason Bonow, Alex Sutter, Freddie Kyles and Isaiah Hahm had pins. The team wrestles Pewaukee at home next Wednesday, January 16, with the JV beginning at 6:00 PM and the varsity taking the mats at 7:00. It will be a battle between two teams that are undefeated in conference action. Come support your Viking wrestlers!
The varsity wrestling team won the large school division at the Milwaukee Lutheran Invitational. The squad had champions: David Carson, Lucas Nygaard, Jason Bonow, Alex Sutter and Isaiah Hahm. The Vikings also had five 3rd place finishers: Nathan Weber, Ruben Micheel, Adler Henn, Freddie Kyles and Jacob Grabczyk. Jacob Bonow took 5th and Sam Oertel placed 6th.
At the 67-team Oshkosh on the Water Invitational, the Viking wrestling team placed in the top half of the pack. The team's top place winners were Lucas Nygaard at 10th place, and Adler Henn and Isaiah Hahm at 8th place.
At a tournament in Pewaukee, Joel Brown and Dante Matuszak also qualified for JV State.
The Wisco wrestling squad had a successful day on Saturday, going 4-1 at the Hartford Duals.
The Vikings split their first two duals with Beaver Dam and Germantown before sweeping their final three, including an intense 39-33 victory over the hosts to close out the day. Adler Henn led the squad by going undefeated throughout the day.
