2026-27 Course Request Process

The 2026-27 Course Request Process begins at the end of January. Please view the information below to prepare as a family ahead of the course request season to best support your child's Academic and Career Plan (ACP).

New this year students will be utilizing the Xello Course Planner tool. If your family did not link an account yet, please
click here to learn more about Xello Family so you can access your child's 4-year course planner and course requests
1. Course Request Dates: The process will run from January 21 to March 1. After February, no student may change their course requests.

2. Course Request Meetings in January and February: School Counselors will meet with every class to complete course requests in Xello. This is also an opportunity for students to discuss their course requests and any ACP needs now and into the future!

3. Preparation: Before your child makes their course requests with School Counselors, review these resources:
    • Review previous courses taken using your child's academic transcript and needed courses to be taken for graduation.
    • WLHS Course Catalog: This document will provide detailed information about the courses offered, including prerequisites, course descriptions, and any special notes. The 2026-27 version will be posted in January with changes/new courses added to the catalog.
    • WLHS Career Pathways Catalog: This will help you and your child understand the different career pathways and how various courses align with these paths. Click here for the career pathway presentations or view the Student Services resource board for grade specific lessons delivered this year.
    • Students will be working in Xello and submit requests using the Xello Course Planner. Although it is not required to use the planner ahead of meetings, students are able to use the tool to help prepare for the meeting using previous grades and transcripts (in onCampus) in addition to the resources above to plot out their 4-year course planner.
    • Students must come to meetings prepared with alternate selections, as an alternate course is required for every requested honors level or elective course to ensure a replacement is available if the student is not enrolled in the original selection.
4. Family Involvement: Discussing options as a family and reviewing the catalogs above together can help your child make informed decisions about their course requests to support their Academic and Career Plan.
  • Juniors:
    • Student/Counselor Meetings the last two weeks of January. A reminder that those students who want to take part in our off-campus or online capstone experiences should review this post sent out in November to complete extra steps outside of course requests in Xello.
    • Parent Review Period: Review course requests in Xello by end of January
  • Sophomores:
    • Student/Counselor Meetings the first week of February.
    • Parent Review Period: Review course requests in Xello by middle of February.
  • Freshmen:
    • Student/Counselor Meetings the third week of February.
    • Parent Review Period: Review course requests in Xello by end of February.
5. Review and Contact: Parents should review their student’s course requests in Xello by the end of the respective month above and contact their School Counselor if any changes are needed.

Final Changes: No course request changes will be accepted past February. Final student schedules will be released in onCampus closer to the start of the 2026-27 school year. Student schedules will be for the entire 2026-27 school year and may not be altered.
