New International Students & American Mentors Go Snow Tubing
The new international students and American mentors enjoyed a fun evening of snow tubing at Crystal Ridge in Franklin, Wisconsin.
After the school day on January 14, students rode in a school bus to the snow tubing hill. It was a cold evening, but that did not keep the students from having fun outside. After a couple of times up and down the hill with their snow tubes, the students were warmed up, laughing, and enjoying their time together. Crystal Ridge uses a walkway conveyor belt (like the walkways used at airports) to help students go up the hill. The resort also has guides who show the students how to use the snow tubes. The guides helped the students stay safe while having fun.
The snow tubing hill has 10 lanes where students can race each other down the hill or link their snow tubes together and ride down the hill in tandem. Students can also go inside and rest in the ski lodge. The lodge has a cafe with hot cocoa and snacks for purchase. The outside of the lodge also has propane fireplaces for students to stand around and visit with each other.
This activity allowed students to experience unique and meaningful ways to enjoy the winter season while spending quality time with each other. Wisconsin has an enjoyable four-season climate (spring, summer, fall, and winter) where it is currently the winter season. In the winter, students can expect to enjoy winter activities like snowman building, ice skating, skiing, and snow tubing, including some quality ski and snow tubing hills close to the Milwaukee area.
The American Mentor to New International Student Program at Wisconsin Lutheran High School (WLHS) pairs American students with new international students during the international students’ first year at WLHS. The mentors help the new students adjust to life away from home through friendship, guidance, and community. Monthly activities create opportunities for cultural sharing, holiday celebrations, food, traditions, and games.
A caring mentor can make a meaningful difference in the success and happiness of a new international student, and events like this one highlight the joy of those connections. Thank you to all who participated and helped make this evening a warm and memorable experience!
