Vikings Return to Guide the Next Generation in Medical Careers Panel

WLHS students packed the room for a recent Viking-to-Viking: Medical Careers Panel, eager to hear firsthand from alumni serving in a variety of healthcare roles. The strong turnout reflected just how much interest students have in exploring future careers in medicine, nursing, radiology, and other healthcare fields.
The panel featured five WLHS alumni who returned to campus to share their educational journeys, career experiences, and practical advice: Dylan Applin, M.D. (’10), Rochelle Horn (’98), Marissa Jefferson (’12), Jonathan Melms (’12), and Samantha Keihl (’07). Together, they offered students a broad look at the many pathways available in healthcare—from physician and nurse practitioner roles to radiologic technology and cardiovascular education.
Students had the opportunity to hear how each alum navigated life after WLHS, what training their roles required, and what they have learned through hands-on experience in the field. The panel also opened the door for thoughtful student questions, giving attendees a chance to better understand both the challenges and rewards of working in healthcare.
Events like Viking-to-Viking are a powerful reminder of the strength of the WLHS alumni community. When alumni return to share their stories, they not only offer practical insight, but also help students imagine how God may use their own gifts and interests in service to others.
A heartfelt thank you to our alumni panelists for investing their time, wisdom, and encouragement in the next generation of Vikings.
Are you a WLHS alum who would be willing to encourage the next generation of Vikings? We are always looking for alumni professionals to return to campus through Viking-to-Viking and share about their career journey, educational path, and real-world experiences. Whether your field is healthcare, business, trades, technology, ministry, education, or beyond, your story could make a meaningful impact on students as they begin considering what comes next. Planning for the next school has begun! Reach out to Sarah Proeber, sarah.proeber@wlhs.org, for more information.
