WLHS Announces Boys Basketball Coaching Transition
After 18 years as head coach of the Wisconsin Lutheran High School Vikings boys basketball program, the 2026-27 season will be the final season for Coach Ryan Walz ('92) . As Coach Walz enters his final season and pursues a fourth consecutive state championship, the WLHS community will have the opportunity to celebrate a coaching career defined by excellence, consistency and a deep investment in young men.
Under Walz's leadership, Vikings basketball has become one of the country's premier programs. But his impact extends well beyond wins, championships and records. Through practices, games and countless conversations along the way, he has challenged his players to grow not only as athletes, but as young men of character and Christian leaders.
The end of Walz's tenure as head coach also marks the beginning of a new chapter for Vikings basketball. C.L. Whiteside ('06), who has coached alongside Walz, will succeed him as head coach and carry forward the strong culture and foundation that have been established within the program.
As we look ahead to an exciting season, we also look forward to celebrating Coach Walz and thanking him for the lasting impact he has made on our basketball program and the generations of young men he has coached and mentored.
