Students Experience History on the 2026 Civil Rights Trip

Over spring break, 32 WLHS students and eight chaperones traveled more than 2,000 miles across 10 states as part of the school’s annual American Civil Rights Trip. Led by WLHS President Dr. Ken Fisher, the trip provides a powerful, hands-on learning experience.

Students visited key sites from the civil rights movement, including Kelly Ingram Park, the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the Rosa Parks Museum, and the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel. Along the way, expert guides helped bring history to life.
Each day included time for reflection through journaling and meaningful “courageous conversations,” helping students process what they experienced and consider its impact today. Daily devotions grounded the group in faith, encouraging students to reflect on how God calls us to live in harmony, understanding, and reconciliation.
Students returned home deeply impacted and grateful for this unforgettable experience.
