Speech Students Build Skills Beyond the Screen

WLHS Speech students began the year by taking a new approach to one of communication’s most important skills: connecting with an audience. Before giving their first full-class speeches, students practiced presenting in small groups while focusing on fundamentals such as eye contact, gestures, tone and pitch, and pacing. The format gave students a chance to build confidence and strengthen their interpersonal communication skills in a more comfortable setting before stepping in front of the entire class. In a world increasingly focused on digital communication, these face-to-face skills remain essential—not only in school, but in college, careers, and everyday life.
