Civil Rights Tour Announced for Spring of 2027

Sophomores and juniors are invited to apply for the 2027 WLHS Civil Rights Tour, taking place March 31–April 5! This life-changing, six-day educational experience offers students the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of civil rights leaders, explore pivotal moments in American history, and reflect on how they can make a positive difference in the world today.

Through visits to historic civil rights sites, daily devotions, and meaningful group discussions, students are challenged to grow in understanding, empathy, and leadership—all while considering how the gospel calls us to love and serve others.

“I’ve witnessed how this educational experience impacts our students in profound ways. It not only expands their racial consciousness and empathy, but it gives them confidence to have courageous conversations about race,” shared WLHS President Rev. Dr. Ken Fisher. “Finally, it challenges them to lead in bringing healing through the gospel that unites us in Christ.”
Thirty-two students will be selected to participate, representing the diversity of the WLHS student body. Selection is based on student leadership and the potential for personal growth and positive change.

There is no cost for selected students. A $50 refundable deposit is required to secure a spot and will be returned to students as spending money on the day of departure.

Students who have participated in previous tours describe the experience as unforgettable: “It was not a vacation. It was not a break from schoolwork and learning. In fact, I learned more on this trip in six days than I’ve learned in a lifetime.”

Apply by Friday, November 6! Eligible students received application instructions by email. The process includes an online application, teacher recommendations, and parental permission. All materials must be submitted by the deadline.
