Back to the Boiler Room: A Wisco Story That Stood the Test of Time

When Randy Eagon ('70) reached out to schedule a visit back to Wisco, it had been decades since he walked the halls—but the memories had never left.
Joined by his wife, Robin (Legler) Eagon ('79), and lifelong friend Mike Hanson ('70), the visit quickly became more than a tour. It was a return to the place where friendships were formed, faith was rooted, and life began to take shape.
For Randy and Mike, their story began through working on campus in maintenance—working after school, weekends, and summers to help pay tuition.
“I didn’t know Randy at first—I thought he was a tough guy,” Mike admitted. “We became best friends right away.”
More than 60 years later, that friendship still stands. From being in each other’s weddings to walking through life’s highs and lows—“He’s more than a friend,” Randy said. “He’s my brother.”
Walking the halls again brought both laughter and nostalgia. “It’s incredible how much the school has grown,” Mike shared.
For Robin, it felt like stepping back in time—“I could picture everything… especially when we thought electric typewriters meant we’d hit the big time!”
Randy added with a smile, “I remember running down the halls… especially if there was a pretty girl!”
One stop stood out above the rest: the boiler room.
That’s where Randy and Mike clocked in, changed clothes, and built a friendship through long hours of work—and plenty of pranks along the way.
“It gave us a work ethic,” Mike said. “And taught me that nothing in life is free—except the love of our Savior,” Randy added.

A Lasting Impact

Looking back, all three agree—Wisco played a foundational role in their lives. “It helped shape our faith, our friendships, and our direction,” Randy and Robin shared. And even with all the changes on campus, one thing hasn’t changed:
You can still feel the care here,” Mike said.
Moments like this are a reminder that while buildings may change, the impact of Wisco doesn’t. It stays with you—and sometimes, it’s worth coming back to experience it again, not just for a visit, but to come home.
